Hogsback Half Marathon cookies :)

I just shipped out cookies for the 2013 Hogsback Half Marathon taking place this weekend in Colebrook, CT. I was so excited to work with Kelly over at Sonic Endurance (sonicendurance.com) on these because she pretty much gave me free reign to have fun and do something unique for their event.

Pink Princess Party

Somehow I hadn't done any Disney Princesses yet and then got 2 for the same weekend... This was my first set for a young fan of my page. She was having a small birthday party and asked each of her friends who their favorite princesses were. We did one for each of her friends (Belle, Ariel, Mulan, Rapunzel, Pocahontas, Jasmine, and Snow White) along with some fun crowns. She knew I had done some rootbeer flavored cookies for the Wizard101 guys (where her dad also works) so we threw in some rootbeer flavored hearts to try out too :) I was concerned as to how I was going to get all these different princesses to look like a complete set and I found this great illustration on deviant art and used it for my inspiration. They came out super cute and my young fan was super excited to hand them out to all her friends.

Pink Pumpkins and Pearls... Happy Birthday

I got the cutest request for birthday cookies the other day. The theme? Pink Pumpkins and Pearls, the girlier the better. The mom wanted a characterize version of her daughter's face and some fun pink pumpkins to go along with them. I had so much fun with these, my hands were pink for a week but I totally didn't care.

These were done for a splash pad party, they were put into cute little boxes that had brightly colored patterns on them.

Happy Mother's Day, Part 2

 

Happy Mother's Day to all those moms out there. These are the second set of cookies I did for Mother's Day this year, this time I was told the mom loved flowers and her favorite color was yellow.  I knew they were going to be shipped so I didn't want to go too crazy, but thanks to a wonderful flower tutorial from Sweet Sugar Bell (here), I had the perfect idea for my "yellow" flowers, the rest just had to keep up. Instead of using luster dust like she did, I did some washes with color to add depth and definition. I was told she very much enjoyed them, something fun and simple for the Mom who loves bright colors and flowers :)

Rylee's 8th Birthday

I got an email from a friend of a friend asking if I could do some cookies for her daughter's birthday party. Her colors were Pink and Green and she wanted music, guitars, and zebra stripes. She mentioned Justin Beiber but I didn't really want to go there. My original idea was a zebra striped music note but I looked everywhere for a music note cookie cutter and somehow everyone in town was sold out. It was getting down to the wire so I had to do a last minute substitution. I sat down with my sketchbook to figure out what I was going to do and these came out almost exactly like my sketch. I had the privilege of delivering these to them today and Rylee was soooo excited. Their whole house was zebra, cheetah, tiger... you name an animal print and they probably had it, so these fit in great. I know I did more than the mom asked for but I really wanted to make something fun for the girls and I couldn't resist (plus they make a great pic for the blog, don't you think?).

Anna and Drew are turning 4!

I got an email from my cousin asking if I could do some semi last minute cookies for her twin's 4th birthday party this week. I my first question was, "what are the kids into right now?" I wasn't quite prepared for the answer... Buzz Lightyear and Princesses... how was I supposed to combine those two things into one cookie? After many, many sketches... I gave up and decided each would get their own cookie instead. So Anna (who's favorite colors are pink and red), got an "A" with a sparkly red crown, Drew (who's favorite color is blue), got a sparkly "D" with Buzz Lightyear wings coming off of it. Then each bag got a big gift cookie as well because it was a birthday party after all and gifts are just part of the fun. This was my first time trying to play with edible glitters... I learned a lot and made a big mess in the process. These are in transit right now, I cannot wait to see how the family likes them :)

Update: Jenny (the mom) totally made my night with a comment on my facebook page when they got their box yesterday..."We just received the cookies and they are amazing!!! Anna and Drew are so excited! Thank you for making their birthday so special!! Everything right down to the packaging is just perfect!! I can't believe you got three in each bag!!!!"

Animal Crackers in My... Soup?

I recently purchased an awesome set of vintage animal cookie cutters from my local antique mall and immediately thought of Bake@350's posting for frosted animal cookies. I know she's not the first or only one to have this idea, I've seen quite a few of them, but hers was the first one that came to mind. 

I have a friend in college that used to eat these thing by the tub full (well the non-frosted ones anyway, they're "non-fat" so it's okay to eat a bunch, the frosted ones were a treat). I've been trying to think of something to make for her and her family as a nice "thinking of you" kind of gift, and these are going to be it. It wasn't until after I got them all decorated and ready to ship that I realized I broke the cardinal rule of cookie shipping... Don't ship anything with "limbs," and these are nothing but limbs. I'm gonna try and reinforce them a little and hope they make it. With 3 boys, not counting her husband, I'm sure if they are a little battle damaged by the time they get there. Even limbs will taste good going down.

It's A Girl!

My dad's coworker just delivered a beautiful baby girl, Elena, and one of the mom's favorite foods is cookies... so naturally my dad asked me to make her some and ship them to California. I was excited to do something girly for a change, so much pink icing :) These came out super cute and way better than I could of planned. I ended up just kinda winging it last night and doing whatever felt right at the time. I hope she likes them, congrats to the new family! See more pictures here.
