Minecraft, take 2... this time with more FLAVOR :)
So I met the sweetest girl at CookieCon last November named Rachel. She lives in Wisconsin and is an aspiring, and super talented, pastry "artist" of all types of tasty treats. She saw my Minecraft cookies from before and asked for some to give her husband, Luke. While I know Rachel is perfectly capable of making her own cookies, I decided to do something extra special... just for them so don't ask I took all the little bits of flavored dough I had in the freezer and made a variety platter for them. Vanilla bean, Red Velvet, Lime, Chocolate, Lemon and Gingerbread. Today is Luke's birthday... Happy Birthday Luke!

Spirit of Christmas, part 2... hope you have a sense of humor
This is not a trick, those are cookies :) These were all my Dad's idea... he sent me a pic and via email with the subject: "wouldn't these make a cool cookie?" Well that got my brain going because I loved the idea. Each cookie has a flavor to match it's color... Cinnamon, Coconut, Peppermint, Lemon, Vanilla and Red Velvet. I wanted to keep going but I ran out of icing to mix into new colors. These are on their way to him as a surprise with the logos, I hope the final product is a good as he envisioned because they were super fun to make. Thanks for the great idea, Dad.

Gone With the Wind... baby shower?
These were a lot of fun, a friend asked me to help her out... she was planning a baby shower for her best friend and the theme was Gone With the Wind. She wanted to focus on the green dress that Scarlet makes out of the curtains. I wasn't sure where these were heading when I agreed to do it but after a bunch of sketches, these came out pretty cute... The onesie represented the dress but I had to include the crazy feathers in her hat too. I wanted to do some with text, doesn't it remind you of the old title cards they'd put before the movies? I hope the friend likes them :)

40 Bites! (bites... get it?)
I had a client contact me to make some cookies for her husband's 40th birthday. She had seen a cookie cutter that looked like it had a bite taken out of it and asked if I could make something similar. He was not handling the transition out of the 30s well so she wanted to do something kinda funny. I did 40 of the round cookies, each with a "bite" taken out of it. Then we did a plaque cookie with her joke message to her husband. She wanted me to surprise here with the flavors so I wanted try something new. I'd never been able to pull of chocolate chip cookies so I thought this would be a good time to change that :) It took 2 failed attempts but I think I finally got them right. The other flavor was vanilla bean with lemon icing... some thing a little more light and refreshing. We were originally going to put 40s on all the smaller cookies but she didn't want to rub in the age thing too bad so we decided to do plain frosting with sprinkles (because everyone likes sprinkes, right?). She was taking them on a trip over the weekend, I can't wait to hear how they were received by her husband.

Happy Birthday Wizard 101... 3 years and growing!
We have a small company out here called KingsIsle Entertainment that puts out an amazing game called Wizard 101. It's a massive multiplayer online game for kids (and adults) of all ages, kinda like World of Warcraft meets Harry Potter. If you aren't already one of 20+ million players then you should check it out (Wizard101.com), you can play for free but it's only available on the PC :(. Okay, enough sales pitch for one day, back to the story. So the game is 3 years old today which is awesome and I'm very proud of my Austin guys for coming up with something special that everyone seems to love so much. I wanted to do something extra special so I decided to make a large arrangement of cookies with all new flavors that would correspond to their 7 schools of magic (Life, Death, Fire, Ice, Myth, Storm, and Balance). I've never done this many cookies at once and I can say it was way more work than I was expecting but so worth it in the end. They ate it up, literally, and loved the new flavors.
On a side note, Texas passed a law that became effective yesterday which legalized home based baking businesses... so I'm now official and legal :) Look for way more news and changes to come, I can't wait to start seeing where this all takes me.

Summer Gingerbread
I read about this recipe here and just HAD to try it. My husband had a coworker who is leaving this week and shared that he used to love a gingerbread lemon cake his mom made for him growing up. I thought these would be the perfect going away gift... something different, delicious, and deceptively easy to make. This was my first time making anything "gingerbread" and I have to admit I was a little scared, but they came out delicious. I highly recommend you make them today, or better yet let me know and I'll make you some because this recipe is some of the tastiest bowl licking material ever made.
P.S. There were only 3 cookies left when I got home so I had to get a picture QUICK before they all disappeared, sorry there isn't a better shot of them all (for reference, I made half of her recipe and it made 24 cookie sandwiches).
