Harvest Candy Corn... yes, they do taste different!

They all taste the same... right? It's funny because there is a discussion every year around this time in our house over this "harvest mix" of sweet goodness. We know they are all the exact same ingredients but somehow our brain has us convinced that some taste better than others... I'm tricking my sister's brain and sending her come cookies to taste test this year ;)

More bow ties :)

More Bow Ties  These were done for a bow tie themed baby shower. I really enjoyed this color palette and everything was done wet on wet icing, no painting on these for a change. I love all the different patterns and the small pops of orange. I hope they are a hit with the party goers this weekend.

Peek-a-boo Monsters

I got a call from the sweetest person to make her some cookies for a baby shower... the next day! She'd gotten my number from two separate people that morning because she'd been looking for someone to make her cookies for the past month with no luck and it just so happened I knew the girl making her cake AND the co-host was a past customer of mine... how could I say no? I told her I'd do my best as long as she was cool with just a few colors. Thankfully these guys were pretty simple to duplicate and overall they came out kinda cute. My son totally fell in love with the green striped guy (even though they orange guy was his favorite color).

Happy New Year... Cape Cod style

I friend asked me to make some New Years cookies to send her family who lives in Cape Cod. I was given freedom to do anything I wanted so I challenged myself to do something in all white to go with the orange gingerbread flavor. This set was a lot of fun and even though there wasn't any color I really liked all the texture and detail I got. The seagulls were my favorite :)

Ambit Energy logo cookies

My mother-in-law recently joined the proud ranks of Ambit Energy representatives. She is planning on attending an energy conference up in Dallas at the end of the month and she wanted something she could hand out and be remembered for. There are a lot of "A's" in the Ambit logo... they took forever ;)  Overall I'm pretty happy with the way these came out, the color looked great and for my first logo cookies I really think they matched well. My mother-in-law loved them so we'll see what the other attendees think.

These were done for a splash pad party, they were put into cute little boxes that had brightly colored patterns on them.

"Little Man" Party

I loved the idea behind these cookies. I got an email from someone who got my information from someone else... it was a friend of a friend kind of thing. She told me she was looking for some cookies for her son's birthday second birthday party and the theme was "Little Man." She was looking for neckties and bow ties in fun boyish colors to go with her theme. I immediately wrote her back and crossed my fingers that she'd let me have the job. She gave me the green light and complete artistic freedom to have fun with it. I couldn't find a large enough cookie cutter to do these so I ended up hand cutting each one. Since we didn't want to do plain vanilla, we decided on an orange/vanilla royal icing, they kinda tasted like an orange creamsicle when they were done, very yummy. I had so much fun planning all the fun patterns and seeing them come out. This was one of those rare times when everything came out just like the sketches. I've got a bunch more that I didn't get to try, maybe these will pop up again around Father's Day.

A plate of party cookies...

This is the result of friends "helping" me make cookies. They are not exactly how I normally do them, but it was our annual Halloween party with all our friends and they weren't going to judge them by anything but taste... so I let them help, and it was actually quite fun and a little free-ing. I didn't get very many pics, but it is one pretty fun looking plate of cookies.

See if you can find all our spooky friends: witches, vampires, frankenstein (he's a little hidden) and his wife, black bats, purple bats, witch brooms and cauldrons, gravestones, eerie eyes, spider webs, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, coffins, and various random halloween bites.

Garrison Brothers Distillery is located in the little town of Hye, Texas. They are the first legal distillery in Texas and have only shipped twice to local retail stores and both times were sold out in a matter of a few days. I had the wonderful fortune of getting on a waiting list for one of the first shipments just before Christmas and the day it came in I dragged my son all the way to Fredericksburg (1.5 hours away) to buy the little bottle of amber gold. On the drive back we saw the sign for the tiny town of Hye and decided to take an adventure and see if we could find the actual distillery and get a picture to go with the bottle. A few miles of dirt road later we came across it and pulled in, almost instantly a man in a big pickup pulled up behind me and I was sure he was gonna kick me out... I was there without any appointment and I had an infant in the backseat. He didn't, his name was Dan and he was awesome, I told him why I was there and he took me up to see the operation and get better pictures, he even signed the bottle for Karl (which was so awesome he wouldn't open it to try it out). I left so excited, Mr. Dan Garrison totally made my day and a pretty cool gift transformed into something totally custom and amazing.

So, flash forward a few months and my parents are down to visit for my husband's birthday. As a gift I sent the guys down to the distillery for a "Sit and Sip" tour. I wanted to thank Mr. Dan for his kindness and decided that all men love food so cookies were a safe bet. I did some research on their operation and came up with a good variety. The royal icing was flavored with their bourbon which gave it a nice subtle spice flavor once dry. If anyone is a big bourbon fan and traveling through the Fredericksburg area, I highly recommend giving them a visit... just remember to call first ;)

The main cookies: bourbon bottle image, texas star logo, Hye bottle tag, black wax seal in chocolate, bourbon barrels with logo stamp, white cowboy hat (for Mr. Dan), and in the center... the Cowgirl, their first sill that started it all.

O is for Ollie

The Weisbrods have always been super supportive of my new hobby so when they asked me to make some cookies for little Oliver's 1st birthday I was very willing. What started out as a simple request slowly transformed into something I wasn't quite sure I could pull off... but I did :)

Mookie decided that instead of plain #1 cookies like we previously discussed, I needed to be "challenged" more and that I should make a series of cookies of things that start with the letter "O" like Ollie. All their decorations were going to be orange and Tiffany made the cutest owl cake to go along with the theme. We packaged these up for everyone to take home with them, an "O" cookie on the front and we made a letter "O" and a number "1" cookie that we tinted orange and flavored with orange zest to go along with it. I am super proud of these, everyone thought I was crazy but they were sooooo worth the time. See more pics here :)
