The legendary taste of Crown with a touch of cookie

Have I mentioned before that I love adding alcohol to cookies? I don't know why but I really think most things take better with a touch of liquor. These were no exception. While I've done a few burbon/whiskey cookies in the past (here and here), Crown Royal has an identity all it's own. I made these for a friend of ours, Mr. Joe, the policeman. He is constantly trying to get my son to eat cupcakes and sweets for dinner instead of, you know... dinner. He's got the biggest sweet tooth I've ever seen and he loves Crown Royal so these were pretty much a no brainer. The logo cookies are based of a design they put on the bottom of their drinking glasses while the small purple crowns are supposed to represent the purple band seal they put on all the bottles. Pretty simple but I don't think they needed much... plus I had the bag, so how could I go wrong? Purple velvet bags make the best gift wrap, especially when they are filled with cookies.

Peek-a-boo Monsters

I got a call from the sweetest person to make her some cookies for a baby shower... the next day! She'd gotten my number from two separate people that morning because she'd been looking for someone to make her cookies for the past month with no luck and it just so happened I knew the girl making her cake AND the co-host was a past customer of mine... how could I say no? I told her I'd do my best as long as she was cool with just a few colors. Thankfully these guys were pretty simple to duplicate and overall they came out kinda cute. My son totally fell in love with the green striped guy (even though they orange guy was his favorite color).

Bow ties are cool... Dr. Who take 2

I was blessed to be able to do another fun set of Dr. Who cookies this week. After talking with the customer she told me I was allowed to have some fun with them so I went for something more whimiscal and really play on the birthday theme. I tried to keep it down to a few simple elements and make them fun, like the little fez toppers on the cupcakes :) I don't know who the little white guys are but someone needed to hold the party baloons so they won the job. Allons-y!

I wanna be like Ike

We had the wonderful opportunity recently to participate in a President's Day collage. Everyone was randomly assigned a president and they had to make one cookie to represent their president, in whatever style or manner they wanted. I was instantly intrigued by all the fun political buttons I kept finding, and I like that Eisenhower's nickname is Ike... how fun is that? I submitted my main "Ike" button, but I couldn't stop there. I did some more research and decided to replicate some of my favorite buttons I found online. There is a great link to the project here by Flour Box Bakery who did a great job putting everything together and even gave some fun presidential facts, check it out and see what everyone else came up with.

Monster Mash has gone teen... Welcome to Monster High

I've secretly liked these characters since the first time I saw them, there is just something fun about imagining what happened to all those monsters after the cameras turned off... they all got busy and made some kids :) For those that don't know Monster High, they are high school characters inspired by popular monster "parents" and they keep coming out with more. This set was for a very special girl so I wanted to make them as awesome as I could. The characters are Clawdean, Frankie Stein, and Draculaura. These were all hand painted and matched her theme perfectly.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries... as cookies!!

I am soooo proud of these. I went thru mulitple recipes to get it just right because these don't just look like Valentine's Days favorite treat but they taste just like it too. A good strawberry, not fake, tasting cookie with a strawberry liquor and chocolate ganache royal icing... these were so good I wish I had made twice as many because I want to eat more and I bearly had enough for my orders.

The great skull cookie cutter challenge

I am participating in another challenge among a bunch of my fellow cookiers. In honor of Sweet Sugar Belle's crazy ability to use random cutters to make anything but what they were designed for, we are passing along a skull cookie cutter from person to person to see how many things we can make, besides a skull, before it gets back to the original person. So far we've had hippos, ice cream cones, cats, Kenny, Nemo, flowers... I can't wait to see what else they come up with. These were my contribution, astronauts, complete with rocket ship. I sketched out a bunch of different ideas for this challenge but these little guys kept calling me to make them and I loved how cute they came out. This challenge was a lot of fun and what a great way to get people to look twice as something they thought could only be one thing.
