Invader Zim... save room for cookies!

"Awww...don't be sad, master. I know what'll make you feel better"... Invader Zim Cookies!
When I got the call to make these cookies I was giddy with excitement. I love the characters from Invader Zim, they had such great style and personality to them. I wanted to do something extra special for these to show off the shows great sense of color and style, so I did a background on each cookie wet on wet first before adding the characters after it dried. These came out exactly the way I imagined them. I had sooo much fun trying to figure out who was going to go where and on what background. The little faces were lots of fun to do too. These have to be the most involved set of cookies I've done to date, and my favorite so far...

"I'm gonna sing the doom song now! Doom doom do doom doo doom doomà"

It's a Boy... Hawaiian style

I got a last minute call to do some baby shower cookies to welcome a new little boy into the world. The shower was going to be held at a hawaiian themed restaurant here in town so the customer wanted the cookies to try and reflect that theme. I never thought of boys and hawaiian... most of the time they are pretty girly. I loved the idea of doing hawaiian shirt styled onesies but that wasn't enough... then I remembered seeing images of guys wearing these great leis made of leaves. I took out my tiny leaf tip and started playing. These came out too stinkin' cute for words. I really like the way the leis came out and I totally think it pulled the theme off while keeping it very much "boy" themed.

"Little Man" Party

I loved the idea behind these cookies. I got an email from someone who got my information from someone else... it was a friend of a friend kind of thing. She told me she was looking for some cookies for her son's birthday second birthday party and the theme was "Little Man." She was looking for neckties and bow ties in fun boyish colors to go with her theme. I immediately wrote her back and crossed my fingers that she'd let me have the job. She gave me the green light and complete artistic freedom to have fun with it. I couldn't find a large enough cookie cutter to do these so I ended up hand cutting each one. Since we didn't want to do plain vanilla, we decided on an orange/vanilla royal icing, they kinda tasted like an orange creamsicle when they were done, very yummy. I had so much fun planning all the fun patterns and seeing them come out. This was one of those rare times when everything came out just like the sketches. I've got a bunch more that I didn't get to try, maybe these will pop up again around Father's Day.

The mom was a professional photographer, look at what she sent me from the party... how cute does this table look!
